Thigh Lift (Thighplasty)
Sagging skin on the thighs makes upper legs problematic areas with age. Thigh lift is an operation which involves the removal excess skin and fat tissue to achieve firmer and more attractive upper legs.
There are two main techniques for thigh lift procedure. In the first technique, the incision is at the junction where the thigh meets the pubic area and scar can be hidden by underwear.
While these techniques provide a general guide for surgery, your doctor may make modifications to accommodate your unique shape and desired results. In general, patients with more skin, tissue, and fat to remove will require longer or more complex incisions, regardless of the technique used.
If the patient needs to remove excess skin after extreme weight loss or she/he is dissatisfied with the shape of her/his legs, second technique is prefered. In this procedure, an incision is made in the groin, similar to the first technique but also it includes vertical scars extending down the legs from the groin to remove more excess skin and fat for tightening and improving the shape of the leg.
The patients come to the hospital on the morning of surgery day after a 8 hour-fasting. In the hospital, the blood tests and examination by anesthesia doctors are performed. Surgery takes about 3 hours. Operation is performed under general anesthesia, one or two nights hospitalization is neccessary. 1 week home rest is recommended. Exercise should be avoided for six weeks. The patient is recommended to use scar removal cream for three monhts.
